COVID-19 Update      (June 17th, 2020)

COVID-19 Update #4 (June 17th)

We are getting ready for our first day of camp on June 22nd.  If you are interested in learning more about camp this summer, please contact Steve Oliver before signing up for camp.

COVID-19 Update #3 (June 8th)

Caravel Day Camp is continuing to work to open it’s camp doors this summer.  We would like to provide an update on what we know right now.

We currently have an inspection with the Division of Public Health set up for later this week.  This inspection should provide us with information that will enable us to better train our staff for the opening of camp.

While we’re very excited to be able to offer a camp program this summer, there are many preparations required to make it possible.  Our first week of camp will therefore be June 22.  For those of you with registered kids for the week of June 15, we can either move this first week to another week later in the summer or provide a refund for this cancelled week.

While there will be a more complete Q&A to be published within the week, one additional detail is important to share now, for parents of campers who are attending the week of June 22.  Our protocol will include a required Pre-Camp Health Assessment Form.  A daily health assessment will be required for each of the 14 days prior to camp, in order for a camper to be admitted into camp.  This document will be sent on June 9 to your email address listed on the Caravel Day Camp Registration.  For those of you with kids registered starting the week of June 22, this health check needs to start tomorrow, June 9.

We would like to thank each of you who completed the camp survey.  The input from this survey reinforced the importance of opening camp for many of you, gave input for the types of protocols you feel are reasonable and important to keep kids, staff, and families safe, and emphasized the importance of planning for an enriching and fun camp experience.  In the next few days we will provide important information concerning our policies and procedures to keep your children and our staff safe while at camp, as well as to give examples of how we’re bringing our creativity and energy forward to develop a fun camp program.

Covid-19 Update #2:  June 2nd, 2020

The Governor of Delaware this past Friday made the announcement that summer camps will be permitted to open with Delaware Phase 2 of the economic reopening.  As of the time of this note, the start date for Phase 2 isn’t known.

Safety for campers and staff is our #1 objective and we’ll use this to guide all decisions.  We are working to stay up to date with guidelines provided by the CDC, American Camp Association, and the state of Delaware.

In the event that the camp is able to open, our staff has worked to research, brainstorm, design, and plan a camp program that keeps campers, families, staff, and the community as safe as possible while also providing a fun and enriching camp experience for all of our campers.  We are preparing to put many new practices in place, such as increased sanitation stations and protocols, facility sanitation protocols, activities that are built around social distancing, curbside drop-off and pick-up with health assessments, smaller group sizes, and minimization of shared facilities.  Sadly, trips to the pool and field trips would not be offered in order to comply with social distancing standards.  We’re hard at work planning fun activities that could take their place!  This being said, if your needs for summer camp should change, please contact Steve Oliver.

Examples of two things that will impact the opening of Caravel Day Camp include:

  1. The availability of appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).  The camp will be required to have this on hand.  We are actively seeking an appropriate supply.
  2. An inspection by the Division of Public Health prior to camp opening, with an earliest possible inspection date coinciding with the first day of Phase 2.

Overall, this is a positive development from the Governor of Delaware and we are still holding onto hope that we’ll see you this summer!  And as we receive more information, we’ll post updates on the Camp Website at www.caraveldaycamp.com and on our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/caraveldaycamp/
